The Heart Behind the Mission

Dr. Alisha “Lisha” DaCosta

A decorated veteran of the United States Air Force, having most notably served during wartime in a combat zone in the Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) era. She holds a Ph.D. in Quantitative Methods (Statistics) and Management from the University of Maryland and is a published, peer-reviewed author with international recognition.

Dr. DaCosta is the founder of Women of Efficacy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and advocating for high school girls and women. The organization is multifaceted, with key focus areas including mentorship, advocacy for women with disabilities and veterans, and support for those experiencing homelessness or domestic violence. Through her leadership, the organization has guided countless young women toward successful futures whether by pursuing higher education, enlisting in the military, or mastering a skilled trade.

To date, Dr. DaCosta has personally mentored over 300 young women, many of whom have gone on to become impactful members of their communities. She annually awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors in her mentorship program and actively supports individuals living with terminal or chronic illnesses. Her outreach also includes providing referrals, financial assistance, and critical resources to those facing homelessness or unsafe living conditions.

Driven by a deep passion for service, Dr. DaCosta is committed to being a lifelong agent of change. She is a humanitarian that is actively engaged in her community. She will be releasing her book in the fall which will be a timeless inspirational book that encourages being one’s best self despite any obstacles! She currently holds the title of Ms. Virginia USA World and will be competing for the national crown in November with hopes of competing internationally in the World pageants.
